Have You Left Yet?

We finally departed Crescent Sail Yacht Club on Tuesday. Our second target date was 6-10-19 so we could celebrate my dad’s 90th birthday – my nieces planned a surprise party. Great job Alyse and Caitlin.

If it wasn’t for my sister Karen (who has helped it so many ways besides providing us a home), Chris (Eric’s brother) that has pitched it making boat items and cleaning out our home, and a friend Rich that provided electrical expertise we would still be at CSYC. BIG THANK YOU!

We started our sailing trip motoring (no wind) through the Detroit River and spent the first night at the Grosse Ile Yacht Club. I’ve never been past Belle Isle in a boat before. The island is beautiful! The state park tax has brought new life to the island. It’s clean and safe again. The conservatory has been updated and the aquarium reopened. The Warren Concert Band and other groups will be performing on the island this summer. Check it out! Amazing how things have changed with a competent mayor!

Grosse Ile Yacht Club was closed but the door of hospitality widely open, A couple of members helped us dock. A friend of Loretta R. came over to see if we needed anything and offer assistance. Others stopped to ask about our boat!

We spent Wednesday and Thursday in Put In Bay. It’s pirate weekend and fun is going to be off the meter. The water is very high. Miller Marina was as awesome spot – clean bathrooms and showers. We met a friend from Sarns Marina, Bob. We had dinner with him and his friend Tommy at the PIB Yacht Club. Perfect hamburger for $6 cooked by Dick.

Yesterday was a rain day so I finished a book on my trip, Ashes in the Snow by Rita Sepetys. 5 stars out of 5

Since I retired April 30th I’ve read the following:

Great Alone by Kristin Hannah 4

One Day in December by Josie Silver 4

The 18th Abduction by James Patterson 3

The Tatooist of Auschwitz 5

Yes, I finally feel like I’m retired. I had a nap on the boat on the way to PIB.

I miss everyone a lot but I’m enjoying this time in my life also.
